Japan isn’t exactly known for its spacious homes and this was no exception. With just 22 square metres to work with, this narrow timber home was tightly packed with houses on either side.
However using skylights and rectangular roof lights the space has been transformed. Skylights have enabled light to reach all areas of the house, completely changing the feel of the residence.

This townhouse was a corner plot which needed to be opened up and made into a light and airy family home.
Of course skylights were the natural option here – especially in the bathroom where they could bring in light to open up the space and avoid having to use artificial lighting throughout the day.

Skylights were used on every level of this three storey townhouse in the bustling city of Porto. The huge benefit of skylights here was their ability to offer natural light into a home whilst still maintaining privacy.
The home is set on a busy street therefore to have all the benefits of natural light flooding in to create a bright home whilst still being private and unseen to the outside was the best of both worlds.
